If you're a dog trainer trying to do everything in your business on your own, first of all… same. I've been there, and honestly, I'm still there sometimes, especially since I am running two brands and have several other projects on the go!
Running sessions, replying to DMs, doing your admin, writing your emails, creating content, marketing, chasing payments, updating your website, planning sessions, following up with clients… it's a lot. It can get overwhelming, and burnout is real.
If you feel like you've got too much on your plate and not enough hands to juggle it all, I want to talk to you today about one of the most popular AI tools that has helped me a ton: ChatGPT.
It’s not perfect, and it’s not human (thank the gods), but it is an incredible tool that can make running your dog training business so much easier.
Here’s how I use it, how you can use it, and why it won’t replace you - but it can definitely help you stop feeling like your business is running you.
Real Talk: How I Use ChatGPT in My Business and Life
ChatGPT has saved me so many times when it comes to things like:
Outside of business, I’ve used it to:
Sometimes it feels like ChatGPT is my bestie. When I told my hairdresser that, he said that sounded sad… but hey, it’s just a tool. And like any tool, balance is key.
Human connection is still important. But now when I’m spiralling about a decision, I annoy my friends a tiny bit less. I know the robot can’t get sick of me and my hyperfixations.
How to Use ChatGPT in Your Dog Training Business
This is where things get juicy. ChatGPT can help you get things done faster and with way less effort. You’re still in control - it’s just like having a really smart assistant that never sleeps.
Here are some ways to start using it:
1. Write Social Media Captions Faster
Prompt:
"Write 3 Instagram captions for a dog trainer about why consistency matters in training. Casual, helpful tone with a bit of humour."
You’ll get options instantly. Then you just tweak them to sound more like you. When it comes to content writing, I prefer to use AI either just to brainstorm ideas, or to write the post, but I edit heavily to add my personal touch.
2. Create Lesson Plans and Client Homework
Prompt:
"You are a dog trainer. Write a 4-week positive reinforcement training plan for a 6-month-old Labrador who is understimulated and jumps on their owner. Use bullet points."
You can even paste in your own format or client info, and ask GPT to follow your structure.
3. Write or Polish Your Website Copy
Prompt:
"Write an About Me page for a friendly, experienced dog trainer in Bundaberg who works with reactive dogs. Warm and approachable tone."
Again, use what it gives you as a draft and tweak it from there. Or to polish what you have already written (I like doing it this way) paste in your writing or a link to the page and ask it to review and improve or to make suggestions.
4. Write Email Sequences
Prompt:
"Create a 3-part welcome email sequence for new subscribers to a dog training list. First email thanks them for downloading a free guide, second introduces the trainer, third invites them to book a session."
Boom. Email marketing sorted.
5. Brainstorm Offers, Blogs and Lead Magnets
Prompt:
"Give me 10 lead magnet ideas for a dog trainer who helps overwhelmed puppy owners."
Prompt:
"List 10 blog topic ideas for a dog trainer wanting to attract more clients with reactive dogs."
You can also ask it to structure an outline for you, or even write a first draft. If I have writer’s block, give me an outline and my juices get flowing and I can fill in the blanks easily. Plus, if it writes something I don’t agree with, I immediately know how I would prefer to say it and that is my content, with passion! Grrr!
6. Help With Life Stuff So You Can Focus
Running a business and a life is a lot. ChatGPT can help you meal plan, grocery shop, figure out what’s for dinner, help you stick to a budget, plan a birthday party, or recommend a quick workout. You might not always follow through (cough me and exercise), but it’s one less decision clogging up your brain.
7. Turn Your Videos Into Blog Posts
If you’ve recorded a video or a live and want to turn it into a blog article, this is such an easy win. Just play your video into Otter.ai for a transcript, or use ChatGPT mobile’s voice-to-text. Once you’ve got a transcript, ask ChatGPT:
"Turn this transcript into a correctly formatted blog post for my dog training website. Make it easy to read, clear, and in my voice. Include a call to action at the end to book into the upcoming training class"
Then review and tweak. Done!
How to Write Better Prompts (So You Actually Get Good Stuff Back)
The biggest mistake people make is giving short, lazy prompts and expecting magic.
You’ll get better results if you:
Be specific
Give it context
Tell it your tone of voice or audience
Give examples
If you’re not sure what to say, just tell it:
"Ask me questions so you can write a great [email/social post/etc] for my dog training business."
Or say:
"You are a dog trainer helping a client with [insert problem]. Write a plan in [insert tone/format]."
I also like to give it examples of past content or things I’ve written before so it can match my tone.
Sometimes I write the draft myself, then ask GPT to review it or improve it. I don’t always take the advice - some things are still better with a human touch. And that’s the point.
AI Chat Tools Beyond ChatGPT
While ChatGPT is the one I use the most, there are other AI chat tools you can explore too:
Claude - Good for long-form content and feels more “gentle” in tone
Gemini - Google’s AI that integrates with Google tools like Docs and Gmail
DeepSeek - Great for code, but can help with logic-based tasks too
There are also AI tools for image generation (like Midjourney or DALL·E), video editing, transcription, task automation, scheduling, and more. It's a rabbit hole, but once you find your favourite tools, it becomes easier to plug them into your workflow without overwhelm.
If you are looking for an AI tool to do a certain task, you can always ask ChatGPT for recommendations!
The Downside of AI Growth
Let’s be real - AI can be intimidating. It’s growing fast, and that freaks a lot of people out. It can feel like everyone’s going to be replaced, and the world’s going to be run by robots. But here’s the thing:
The overwhelm is real, but you don’t have to learn everything at once
Using AI doesn’t mean you lose your humanity - it means you stop wasting time on stuff that drains you
There’s always going to be value in real connection, real empathy, and real human skill
What AI can replace is burnout. It can replace repetitive tasks. It can help you get more done with less effort, so you can focus on what actually matters in your biz and your life.
